Brook Street - Wall Repairs
Regular updates on Brook Street wall repairs
Last update: June 2025
We have been actively working over the past couple of years to determine the most appropriate remedial design for the river wall and highway bridge, balancing long-term structural stability with heritage preservation wherever possible.
Full planning permission is required for the works. We are currently compiling the necessary information for the planning application, after which we will need to wait for formal consent from Cheshire East Council and the Environment Agency before mobilisation can begin. This means we do not yet have confirmed timescales, and unfortunately, the footpath will need to remain closed until the works are complete.
The final design for the replacement retaining wall is in the process of being finalised for the planning permission submission to Cheshire East. This is forecast to be complete early July.
While this is being determined, consultation with the Environment Agency will commence as it is envisaged permits will be required to work next to the river. At present, works are programmed to commence later on in 2025.
In the meantime, we are conducting weekly safety checks to ensure the site remains safe and secure.
