Dealing with ASB
Take a look at some of the ways that you can deal and manage anti-social behaviour
Approaching your neighbour
Living in close proximity to others means there's a chance you might encounter issues, but always remember to be tolerant and respectful to others. It is important to remember that we are all different, and these differences are what makes our neighbourhoods so special.
Before making a complaint, you may wish to consider speaking to your neighbours. Here’s why...
A friendly chat opens the door for understanding. Maybe your neighbour isn't aware their music travels, or they simply haven't gotten around to trimming the hedges. A quick conversation can resolve the issue without escalating tensions.
By talking directly, you might discover a shared perspective. Perhaps you both dislike loud noises in the evening, and you can agree on quiet times. Finding common ground fosters a more positive relationship.
Talking directly often leads to faster solutions. A formal complaint has to follow a process and can sometimes feel impersonal, while a conversation can resolve things on the spot.
By taking the initiative to talk to your neighbour, you're fostering a more positive and respectful community. Knowing and being friendly with your neighbours can make your living environment much more enjoyable.
Of course there are situations where talking directly to your neighbours might not be safe or advisable. If the issue involves threats, harassment or criminal activity, then please contact ourselves or the police.
Dealing with ASB through mediation
Sometimes mediation can help solve a dispute with a neighbour.
We use mediation as one of the ways we can help you to take control of your situation and resolve it.
We have partnered with ADR who can act as a third party and help you to:
- Prevent issues resurfacing
- Create new, healthy relationships
- Increase confidence and improve mental health
- Report your problem to us and we'll take it from there.
Take a look at the leaflet linked below for more information.
Just contact our ASB team and we will do the rest.
