Rainbow Roofs

The LGBTQ+ Group for social housing residents across the North

What is Rainbow Roofs?

Rainbow Roofs supports LGBTQ+ customers in the North West. This is in partnership with HouseProud.

The Group meets once a month with the aim of raising voices of LGBTQ+ customers and the issues impacting them. They are all about support, action and socialising.

So far, the Group has...

  • Run a conference with HouseProud.
  • Influenced policies on hate crime and raised awareness of its impact on LGBT+ people.
  • Discussed housing for older LGBT+ people.
  • Co-produced LGBT+ training for housing colleagues.
  • Conducted ‘life swap’ events to learn about different areas of the LGBT+ community.
  • Presented at the CIH(Chartered Institute of Housing) Conference.
  • Raised awareness of stigma in social housing and lived experiences.
  • Promoted LGBT+ equity at local Pride events.
  • Won 'Special Recognition' at the Stockport
  • Homes Star Awards for Celebrating Diversity and Inclusion.
  • Spoke at a HDN (Housing Diversity Network).
  • Webinar on LGBT+ Inclusion.

And much more!

What this means for you & how to join

The Group is an opportunity for tenants of Housing Associations across the North to make real change for LGBTQ+ residents.

They support one another to come up with ways to influence and positively change the work happening in Housing Associations, to ensure that there is an LGBTQ+ focus throughout organisations.

Residents are welcome to join the monthly Rainbow Roofs meeting, where they will have the opportunity to discuss any ideas or areas where they might need support.

What's coming up?

There's lots happening in 2025 for Rainbow Roofs, and plenty of ways that you can get involved.
