Cheshire Homechoice

Here's everything you need to know about Cheshire Homechoice

Simply put, Cheshire Homechoice is the waiting list for people who want to access social housing.

It is where we, Peaks & Plains (and other social housing providers), advertise our empty properties that are ready to let.

How does Cheshire Homechoice work?

  • If someone is looking for one of our properties, they can join the Housing Register.

They do this by completing an application form on the Cheshire Homechoice website or by contacting Cheshire East Council on 0300 123 5017.

  • You will then be assessed by Cheshire East Council and placed in a priority band based on your need and reason for needing accommodation.

  • We create weekly adverts of properties that are going to become ready to let. Once you have a “live” account with Cheshire Homechoice you’ll be able to log in to or phone Cheshire Homechoice to see which of our properties are available to bid on.

Bidding just means declaring your interest in a property.

  • After a week, we will then sort all applicants by their banding and how long they have been waiting. From here, we'll start to make offers.

I have an offer. What happens now?

1. Once we have offered a property to you, we ask for supporting documents including:

  • Proof of ID
  • Proof of income
  • Contact details for a landlord, employer or a character reference

2. You will then have a 'Risk Assessment' interview.

3. When the property is ready to view you will be invited to meet with a Neighbourhood Officer to have a look around.

4. Finally, we will arrange a sign-up appointment with you.

Answering your questions...

We are unable to provide feedback on every bid.

When you log into your Cheshire Homechoice account you should be able see a range of where you have come on each property you have bid on, for example 1-5, 10-20.

We are unable to accept supporting documents for your Chehsire Homechoice application. These need to be shared with Cheshire Homechoice directly via email or post:

We advertise properties as soon as possible, so if someone has handed in their end of tenancy form and then asked for an extension, it may be delayed in being offered.

Similarly, our Repairs Team has a look at the property to see if any works are needed before a new tenant moves in. If works are delayed or become more extensive than planned, it can delay an offer being made.

We recommend that you continue to place bids until you are contacted by a Housing Provider.

We are not the Council.

Peaks & Plains and Cheshire East Council are two separate organisations and aren’t located in the same building.

Cheshire Homechoice work within Cheshire East Council.

No, you will only be able to bid on properties that are the right size for you and you are also limited to two bids at a time.

Cheshire Homechoice is a “choice based lettings” system, meaning that you have the choice on what you bid on.

We only want you to bid on properties that you would actually like to live in and if you refuse more than one offer of accommodation, it can affect your priority banding.
